XL Axiata continues to carve out positive performance. Starting 2020, the company managed to record strong performance and ever-increasing data.

Revenue increased by 9% compared to the same period the previous year (YoY) and 1.3% compared to the previous quarter (QoQ).

EBITDA also increased 40% compared to the same period the previous year (YoY) driven by revenue growth, cost efficiency and IFRS16 implementation, so that net profit achievement also increased significantly by IDR1.5 trillion.

XL Axiata President Director & CEO Dian Siswarini said, “The first three months of the year are always a difficult period for operators. However, the positive momentum of 2019 performance coupled with innovative product propositions, as well as strong network quality, has succeeded in bringing us to realize that performance remains strong and sustainable in the 1st quarter of 2020. “

XL Axiata managed to increase smartphone penetration by 86% by the end of the quarter 1. This success helped drive data revenue by 17% compared to the same period last year (YoY), and currently revenue from data contributed 91% of total service revenue revenue) company.

Total traffic during the first quarter increased 41% compared to the same period the previous year (YoY) and 7% compared to the previous quarter (QoQ).

XL Axiata’s total customers in this period edged down to 55.5 million due to increasingly fierce competition. However, the average revenue per customer (ARPU) remained stable at 36 thousand, the same as the previous quarter (QoQ) and increased by 6% compared to 1Q 2019 (YoY).

In addition, XL Axiata also introduced several new offers during Q1, namely the Xtra Unlimited Turbo and 1 hour Unlimited Features for XL prepaid service customers, and the Edu-Pack package for AXIS customers, as well as myPrioHome for Priority postpaid customers.

On the other hand, operating expenses decreased by 10% YoY and decreased by 13% QoQ. This could be due to lower infrastructure costs (-23% YoY and -24% QoQ) as a result of IFRS 16 adoption.

Meanwhile, interconnection fees and other costs dropped 9% lower YoY due to reduced interconnection from voice service traffic. Marketing costs also fell 1% lower YoY due to a shift in spending to digital.

XL Axiata continues to invest in expanding and improving the quality of its network throughout Indonesia. As of the end of March 2020, XL Axiata had more than 133 thousand base stations, an increase of 9% compared to the same period last year (YoY). A total of more than 43 thousand BTS of which are 4G BTS.
